Most people on VietnameseLove are here to meet someone genuine. A few are not. These tips help you spot the warning signs early, and tell you what to do if something goes wrong. If anyone makes you feel unsafe, stop talking to them and report them.

Never send money

Never send money, gifts, gift cards, cryptocurrency or bank details to someone you met on VietnameseLove, whatever reason they give. Asking for money is the most common sign of a scam, and it is against our rules.

  • This includes money for a hospital bill, a sick relative, school fees, rent, a phone, a visa, a flight or a bus ticket to come and meet you.
  • Never lend money to, invest money with, or pay a "fee" for someone you met on VietnameseLove.
  • Report anyone who asks you for money, even politely. It protects other members too.

Signs of a scam

Be careful if someone:

  • asks you to move to WhatsApp, Line, Telegram or another app straight away;
  • says they love you, or talks about marriage, very quickly;
  • has a sudden emergency, or a sad story that ends with needing money;
  • tells you about an investment, crypto trading or a way to make easy money;
  • keeps finding reasons not to video call or meet you;
  • offers sex, or asks you for sex, for money or gifts. This is not allowed on VietnameseLove.

Protect your information

  • Do not share your home address, place of work, financial information or other sensitive details.
  • Never send a photo of your passport, ID card or bank card.
  • Never share your password or a login code. Our staff will never ask you for them.
  • Think before you share photos with someone you do not know well. Once you send a photo, you cannot take it back.

Intimate photos and video calls

Some scammers ask for nude photos or a sexual video call, record it, and then threaten to share it unless you pay. This is called sextortion.

  • Do not send intimate photos or videos, or undress on a video call, with someone you have not met in person.
  • If it happens to you: do not pay, stop replying, keep the messages, and report them to us and to the police. Paying usually leads to more demands.

Moving to another app

It is fine to share your WhatsApp, Line or other contact details once you are comfortable. But take time to get to know someone on VietnameseLove first: it makes life much harder for scammers.

We cannot see chats on other apps. If someone you met here treats you badly there, you can still report them. On our mobile website, choose A bad chat on another app and add screenshots of the chat. On a computer, use our support form.

What "verified" means

A verified badge means the member completed face verification with a selfie video, and their face matched their profile photos when they verified. It helps protect you against fake profiles that use someone else's photos.

It does not tell you their real name, their intentions, or whether they are safe to meet, and we do not carry out background checks. Follow these tips with verified members too.

Meeting in person

If you decide to meet someone:

  • Have a short video call first, even if they are verified. It confirms they are who they say they are, and a quick vibe check can save you both time.
  • Meet in a busy public place, such as a cafĂ©, restaurant or shopping mall, and meet in the daytime.
  • Tell a friend who you are meeting, where and when, or bring the friend along to the first meeting. Sharing your live location with them is even better.
  • Arrange your own transport there and back, and do not get into their vehicle.
  • Do not go to their home, or invite them to yours, on a first date.
  • Keep alcohol light, or skip it. Do not leave your drink, phone or bag unattended, even for a trip to the bathroom.
  • Ask a friend to call you 15 minutes into the date, so you have an easy way to leave if it is not going well.
  • If you are travelling, keep your passport and valuables somewhere safe and carry only what you need.
  • Trust your instincts. You can leave at any time, and you never owe anyone a second date.

Report and block

Reporting helps us remove scammers and people who break our Community Guidelines.

  • On our mobile website, open the member's profile or your chat with them, tap Report, and choose the reason that fits best. For something that happened on a date, choose A bad meeting in person.
  • On a computer, use Report on the member's profile. For anything its options do not cover, use our support form and include their username.
  • Add a screenshot if you can. Reports with a screenshot are reviewed much faster.
  • We never tell a member that they were reported, or who reported them.
  • When a member you reported is banned, we send you a notification. You can turn this off with the Reported user blocked switch in Account settings on our mobile website.
  • If you reported someone by mistake, do not worry: we do not block anyone without a good reason.
  • To stop someone contacting you, tap Block in the options on their profile.

If they blocked you or left

Had a bad experience with someone who then blocked you, turned off their profile or deleted their account? You can still report them. On our mobile website, go to Account › Reports and tap Report someone who blocked you or left. It lists people who messaged you in the last 30 days.

If it happened longer ago, they never messaged you, or you are on a computer, use our support form and include their username.

Child safety

VietnameseLove is for adults aged 18 and over. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation.

  • If a member asks about children in a sexual way, or shares a sexual image of a child, report them straight away. In the report, choose Involves a child (under 18). On a computer, or if you cannot send a report, email childsafety@oxixo.com.
  • Please do not screenshot, save or forward a sexual image of a child, even to report it. Report the profile or chat and we will preserve what is needed.
  • If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police first.

Read our full Child Safety Standards, including how we respond and how law enforcement can contact us.

In an emergency

If you are in danger, or someone threatens you, contact the local police first, then report the member to us.

In Vietnam
Police: 113
Ambulance: 115

In any other country, call the local emergency number.

For anything else, contact our support team.
